Sustenance - What’s that then?
Sustenance?
What’s that all about?
Well, it’s my fourth pillar alongside, Work, Rest and Play.
It’s the energy; and the fuel that enables you to work rest and play, it’s the lense through which those three are viewed. And it’s the why for those too. Its also the community you feel part of and its the home in which you feel safe.
Quite simply, like lunch - not enough of us stop to have - but when we do - it makes the world of difference.
And thats why I chose the acronym L.U.N.C.H to represent it.
Love
Understanding
Nutrition (and Hydration)
Community
Home
So whats that all about then?
Love.
We all need love in our lives to sustain us. When we have love for ourselves and others and we feel loved by others, life is magical. Love is part of esteem and love can come from a clear why; a love of something.
A love of someone else now that’s glorious isn’t it - it brings so much and gives so much and well the absence of loving ourselves - thats unliveable.
Understanding
“To understand and be understood is to be free” says Daniel Johnson and in my experience he is free. How do we become understood? We invite questions - from ourselves and others. How do we understand? We honour others by asking them questions too.
Nutrition and Hydration
The ‘simple’ but not so simple balance and volume of macro and micro nutrients needed to fuel the demand we place upon on our minds and our bodies. Demanding that we have a healthy relationship with what we eat and drink and why.
Community
Feeling part of something, sharing or having certain attitudes and interests in common. Now that’s special. Someone to do this stuff with, or to have them cheer you on, Cheer with you, or cheer for you.
Home
Is “…safe. vulnerable. authentic.true. steady.an oasis. a place to recharge and unplug. a deep sense of rest. a place to eat the doughnuts and then workout. a time to reset. a place to gather those you love”.
We all deserve a home. Don’t we? And a planet capable of sustaining that home?
A way of codifying…
As a coach of over 20 years experience I recognise that the absence of these elements of L.U.N.C.H hinders performance, motivation and satisfaction. Every question I ask is informed by experience and now it feels tike to share that experience in blogs. These blogs are my way of ‘codifying’ and ‘compartmentalising’ what I do into revisable shareable chunks; things that I can teach as well as coach on. I hope it’s useful.
Some questions for you
In the coming weeks I’ll elaborate more on each of these elements but for now, I’ll leave you with 5 questions Which of these 5 elements do you have most of in your life and how does that make you feel?
Which one of these 5 facets do you have least of in your life and what would it mean to have more of that?
How could your highest element help you have more of your lowest element
Who could help you attain that?
When will you ask them?
Remember, you dont have to be great to get started, but you have to get started to become great and I’d love to hear your responses and thoughts at stefan@stefanpowell.co.uk
